The Brown Book: A Guide for the Black Gardener

I designed The Brown Book, a zine created by Brian Kennedy II, as a visual and editorial celebration of Black gardening traditions. The publication blends storytelling, photography, and practical field notes, highlighting the voices and wisdom of Black gardeners across generations. My design approach emphasized clean typography, thoughtful image placement, and an earthy, organic aesthetic that honored the connection between people and the soil. The result is a piece that functions as both a guide and a cultural archive, capturing the richness of heritage while presenting it in a modern, accessible format.
